The Woes Continue for the Arizona Diamondbacks

Well call the season over for the Diamondbacks. This was their best opportunity that the team had, they have taken the first part of the season, and as a result have blown many hopes and dreams that several of the fans for the team had in the earlier part of the 2010 season. This was supposed to be the year that the team got back on track and made an impressive run for post season play, this as a result is not what happened and as a result the team is in last place in their division. This is horrible news for the state that also gave us the NHL disaster Coyotes. This is a sign that teams in Arizona are not good at sports.

There are a lot of problems that have developed in the pitching department of the team. There was supposed to be a solid pitching rotation that would support the team and therefore allow them to make the most out of the opportunities that they had in front of them. This was not the case and as a result the team does a good job to get the ball across the plate to their opponents. There have been a number of home runs that have been scored when it came to the team and their pitching power.

Part of being a good baseball team, is being able to hit the ball. This will go a long way in getting a team to advance bases and win games. 44 games this season the team has not been able to find the proper way to hit the ball. This has been an area of contention for the team as they are looking at having a serious problem just hitting the ball and getting it past the infield. This would explain why the team's home runs stats are in the single digits. In order to hit the ball, you have to aim for the ball. This is the basic rules of baseball.

There is little to brag about when it comes to the team and their abilities in the outfield. There has been one mistake after another that has been made that allowed the opposing team to just have their way in the way of scoring runs on the team. One basic rule of baseball is that you need to learn how to scoop the ball up and as a result learn how to take it and score a double play. This will continue to be a sore spot for the team as a result of not being able to score on their opponents.

If you are a diehard fan of the Diamondbacks, then you are to be congratulated on the dedication that you have for this team; it takes a lot to admit that they are a fan of the team from Arizona. This amount of dedication may one day be rewarded but in the meantime there will be a lot of teams that will make the Diamondbacks, the laughing stock of MLB and as a result will be the end of an era for a team that at one point had so much potential in front of them as a result. This will be a long season for the fans of the Diamondbacks to suffer through for 2010.

If you are one of the faithful for the team, then I feel for you and the best thing to do is hope that next season is better than this one. It is a lost cause for Arizona this season and next is not looking much better.

Indianapolis Colts and 2010

This is a season that the colts can make the most out of the opportunities that are in front of them in the upcoming season. This as a result will lead the team to have a lot more success in the 2010 season than in the previous two. This may seem like an impossible thing seeing that they made their way to the Super Bowl last season and came so close to winning.

Peyton Manning has done a remarkable job as the Quarterback for the team. There are few players that could have done the type of job that Manning has done with such perfection as he has. There is little work that needs to be done in the way of passing; the real work will come from the team as a whole looking to get on the road in the rushing game. This is where all of the major problems seem to be developing.

The passing game of the team is the one area that very few improvements need to be made; there are several different aspects that will need to be explored in order to make full use of the teams overall projections that many experts placed on them in the off season. These experts apparently have the secret to the Magic eight ball as to what does the future hold for the Colts.

Regardless of the offensive situation, there needs to be a serious look at the defense. The team has had a hole in their defense that has leaked for some time. This leaking hole has led to the team being embarrassed in this year's Super Bowl as they were unable to stop the New Orleans Saints. If there is not some work done about this, then the Colts will have a long season of watching the Saints run past them again this season. While many fans were hoping for a rematch of the Super Bowl, it looks like that won't happen as the schedule does not have the two meeting.

In the end of the season, there will only be one team that will be left standing as the true champion for the season, this team will be the dominant force that withstood all challenges and became more than just a simple team, they became a part of history and etched their name in the history books as a true champion.

Texas Longhorns Sports

Longhorns On The Field

Texas football has been a prestigious program for many years. They currently play in the Big 12 Conference. They have been a member of this conference since 1996. Over the football program's history, Texas has claimed a total of four national championships. They've also claimed a total of 32 conference championships. The program has only had two previous Heisman Trophy winners though.

The NFL has been snatching up Texas players since 1938. A minimum on one Texas player drafted every season for 72 years. A team that has been ranked just outside the top 5 football schools in history. A team that has basically won 7 out of every 10 games ever played. Only two other powerhouses are better in terms of winning percentage.

There are only two other schools that have a better winning percentage than Texas. They rank #2 in total bowl appearances & rank 8th overall in total games ever played. Since the insertion of the BCS, Texas has played in 4 BCS games. They have won 3 of those including a Rose Bowl victory for the national title back in 2005. The other two BCS wins came in 2006 & 2009 against USC & Ohio State.

Longhorn Hoops

The men's basketball program started play back in 1906. The Texas basketball program has been successful as well. They have made 12 consecutive NCAA tournaments. Add to that, 11 consecutive seasons of 20+ wins.

In terms of basketball, Texas ranks 15th all-time in wins for D1-A schools. They have won a total of 27 conference championships. They still haven't claimed a national championship besides their success. Texas basketball is currently lead by Rick Barnes. He has been at the forefront for 12 seasons running now. Barnes came over from Clemson after spending 5 years there.

A previous Texas player that's gaining more & more recognition is Kevin Durant. After spending only season at Texas, Durant declared for the draft & has since become a force to be reckoned with in the NBA for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

America's(Or Should I Say Texas) Favorite Pastime

A haven for top college baseball play. A team that has won more games percentage-wise than than other other program. Only 1 other baseball team that has an advantage over them in victories too. A team that has been a regular in the tournament for college baseball's best(CWS). Not only just appearing, but, having the most victories as well.

Two Rays in Line for Classic

The 2010 All-Star game is set to be played at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California on Tuesday, July 13. Voting sponsored by Sprint is underway and will continue until the official closing of balloting on July 4th. Fans have the opportunity to start their voting online July 1 but early voting for some fans is already open. The good news for Rays fans is that 2 rays players are already in. The better news is that other rays players are on the edge and with just a little help can make the AL team a Rays dominate team.

For they rays the voting is going well and for one ray the positive swing of the voting is a surprise. Longoria, who is only in his 3rd season, is solidly in position to take home one of the commemorative All Star Jockstraps since he is currently in second place for the third base position with 2,534,967 votes putting him 963,136 votes ahead of the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez. This is in addition to the fact that he is leading the Rays in RBI's as well as being a breakout hitter for the season so far. Carlos Pena who at first looked like an odds on favorite ended up as of Monday ranked fifth in the first-base voting, carrying a total of 620,001. It is surprising to see him this far behind the position leader Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins who so far has 1,752,276 votes top his credit.

Last year MVP of the all star game Crawford, also looks like he will be hanging another commemorative All-star Jockstrap in his locker this year. He currently is in second place among the outfielders of the American League with over 1,445,615 votes. The leaders American leagues tradition of starting the top three players in the votes means that Crawford will be suiting up beside the Seattle Mariners' Ichiro Suzuki who is in first with 1,567,788 votes, and the Rangers' Josh Hamilton, who was in third place with 1,431,013 votes.

Fans are able to start voting with their sprint smart phones on certain plans beginning on Monday and all fans can cast up to 25 votes for their favorite teams via the MLB.com website or any of the 30 club sites for the individual teams. Online voting closes t the same time as text voting on July 4th during the All-Star Selection Show. The Al-Star Announcements will be broadcast on the TBS superstation. There will also be some interesting changes to the voting this year that will allow the experience to be more enjoyable for both the players and the fans. During the show the fans all over the world will be given a chance to cast "the final vote" to help set the teams and the starting lineup. All voting is being sponsored by Sprint, who is also sponsoring the Game. The all-star selection showed being broadcast via satellite worldwide courtesy of TBS and co-sponsored by Sprint and Pizza Hut/Taco Bell.

For an additional level of interactivity this year fans will also be allowed to vote for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet. This is a great opportunity for the fans to be involved with the MVP selections and get to have a say as to who they feel was the best player in the game. The All-Star Game will be televised by FOX nationwide and additional coverage will be available on the web at MLB.com ESPN Radio will be providing official Play-by-Play coverage across all of north America on AM, FM and XM bands as well as HD radio.

Looking ahead for the 2010 Tennessee Volunteers

There are several fans that are still looking to find the team that they once loved and as a result have to embrace the newest victim to be placed on the team and fans. All of this is due to Lane Kiffen and his amazing disappearing act. The fan of this team has been left with a sour taste in their mouth; as a result the team needs to find their swagger that they once had. This will be a long journey that the team will need to take on as their new coach leads them into battle.

The loss of Eric Berry was one that was difficult for the team to deal with, in the other side of things there was a successful signing day for the team., this signing day allowed them to fill the holes that had been left with the departure of many of the players that made the Volunteers a powerhouse in the early part of 2000. Then the team fell into a hole, and as a result found themselves in a position that they were in need of a savior to bring them back up. This was supposed to be Lane Kiffen.

Lane Kiffen leaving the team for USC was considered to be one of the toughest things for the team to swallow as a result of the many tough decisions that they have had to deal with in the past few seasons. This was considered to be a tough decision for the team to have to accept and as a result left them scrambling to find a replacement for their coaching. Leadership. This as a result was a tough thing for the team to have to get past. This will be the beginning of the rebuilding that the team will have to go through.

The loss of Eric Berry is one that the team will need to struggle with as the team adjusts in the future. There has been a lot of players in the past few weeks that are looking to step up to the plate in order to be all that they can in the overall sense of getting the team back on track to winning games and overcoming the football world. These players want to be the new face of the team and as a result want to be all that they can be. There will need to be a quarterback that can lead the team on the field and not get scared every time the ball is handed off to him.

This can be a wonderful season for the Tennessee Volunteers, this will be a result of the many obvious areas that need massive improvements in the upcoming season, the more that the team suffers, then the better that they will be focused as they will be reminded of what Lane Kiffen did to them and will do what it takes to secure a meeting with the Trojans in the Bowl season. This will be one of the more anticipated games of the season, if it actually should happen in the upcoming season. This will be a team that the Vols will have no love for in 2010.

Former Pittsburgh Panther Pigskin Stars

Mike Ditka(1958-1960)

Mike Ditka is a well known commodity in the football scene. Ditka grew up not far from his college alma mater. He didn't have far to travel to get to his college destination. The Pittsburgh campus was only about 20 miles away. He was recruited by 3 schools coming out of high school. The other two schools were Notre Dame & Penn State.

A player that garnered All-American status his final year at Pitt. Also, voted into the elite class of college football players(College Football Hall of Fame). Once leaving his college days, "Iron Mike" went on to the next level to both play & coach. He played for 3 different teams in the NFL. Garnering 5 Pro Bowl nominations & 3 Super Bowl titles.

The 1st player ever inducted into the Hall of Fame at TE. Coached the "Windy City" Bears to a coveted championship. This championship led to funny "vocal" & "television" with a Super Bowl tribute for viewers.

As head of a team, Ditka didn't care to show his emotions after games. His media relations were sometimes not very good by expressing his thoughts & opinions openly. He currently is under contract with ESPN as a pro football expert.

"Run" Tony "Run"

Here we have a man that provided Pitt with a championship nearly 25 years ago. In 1976, he took home 3 prestigious awards. The nation's leader in rushing with close to 1950 yards. Goes down in college football history #2 in rushing behind former Texas great & current Dolphin Ricky Williams. Dorsett had two stellar games in college. Both against the Irish. Many thought that the grass was left to grow in South Bend to help stop Dorsett on the ground.

His NFL days were also great. He holds an honor that no other player can claim. That is winning a championship in college & turning right around the next year to gain an NFL championship. He spent his NFL career with only 2 teams. He was voted best rookie in pro football in 1977. In the same year(1994), Dorsett was elected into both the Pro & College Football Hall of Fame.

He had two games to well remember in college. Both games were against the mighty Irish. He rushed for 303 yards in 1975 & he totaled 290 rushing yards in 1976. People even said that Notre Dame let the field grass grow high to try & help slow this great running back down.

Dorsett went on to have a great NFL career as well. He played 11 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys & one with the Denver Broncos. He holds honors as being the only player to ever win a college national title one year & a Super Bowl championship the next. He helped lead the Cowboys to Super Bowl XXII win. During that Super Bowl winning season Dorsett was voted Rookie of the Year in the NFL. He has been voted into both the College Football & Pro Football Hall of Fame. Both were done in 1994.

Dan "The Man"

A former Pitt & Dolphin great at QB. A player that played college football in his stomping grounds. A worse than expected final college campaign that affected his Heisman chances & draft status at the next level. A senior campaign that persuaded other NFL teams to avoid picking him in the draft.

A few other QB's were taken ahead of Dan in the draft but the ones that skipped on him sure were mistaken. The Dolphins scooped him up & then he provided what turned out to be great memories & records. One thing missing on his resume was a championship. This didn't keep him from the Pro & College Football Hall of Fame after 17 NFL seasons & one NFL MVP award.

Those memories certainly help forget that this player wasn't able to lead the Dolphins to

Mets of New York

New York Mets a Team of Trouble

If you were to have looked into a crystal ball in the first part of the season, there would have been a lot of confusion as to what does the rest of the season hold in store for the team From New York. No we are talking about the Mets. This team looked like they were for the most part done and was not going to make an impressive run in 2010. Well here we are and the Mets are stronger than they have been in a long time.

While there is still a lot of in fighting going on and some players are not in good standing with the management of the team, the truth is that they are a half game out of being tied for first. This comes as a shock to the team and to the fans. There are a lot of people that are trying to figure out what is going on.

The bullpen is where there is the most amount of improvement when it comes to the team, there has been a lot of work that was placed in getting the pitching order worked out in a fashion that would allow them to work as a cohesive unit and get the job done.

This is a direct result of the new sense of displine that the team has in the past few months. There is a new pitching coach, and he expects all players to adhere to the rules. This has led to the bullpen being a strong part of the team and being able to carry the team on its shoulders alone.

The work that has been put into getting a batting order that is second to none, has also went a long way in helping to make sure that the team is able to face whatever comes their way. Many teams took this team too lightly and as a result found them to be in a position that the Mets were able to place a win on their season. All of this has put them a half game from tying for first in the division.

The others say that this is the beginning of something a lot bigger in the way that the team is poised to win more games and as a result increase their standing in professional baseball. Regardless of what your opinion of the team is, there is little arguing the fact that at least the first part of the season has been one that will be rembered as the best in years.

All of this and the fact that there is still untapped talent that the team is holding back in case of an emergency, the Mets are the sleeper team to keep an eye out for in the second part of the season. Go out and buy the Mets merchandise now as this team will be on fire leading towards October.

There is no real reason why the problems of the past, will bother the Mets as they charge towards the end of the season. The more that they are told they won't make it, the more determined that they will become. This is the best time to jump on the Mets bandwagon, and claim that you have been a lifelong fan. If not then your friends will have a team to root for and your team will more than likely be a victim to the New york Mets.

The Wolf Pack searching to make a significant effects in the earth of football

For the team from N.C State this is a time that the team needs to make full use of the opportunities that are in front of them. There are several different types of things that need to be considered when it comes to the team and the different types of offense that is in place for the team to succeed and make the most out of the opportunities that are in front of them as a team.

What they hope for, and what they are able to deliver, will be two different things in this season, as a result of this there will need to be a lot of different types of players that will need to make it a point that they step up on the field. Even though these new players are new to the college football world, they will need to make a big impact as they only have four years to get noticed by the NFL. This will be a giant season for them.

All quarterbacks want to be in contention for the Heisman Trophy; this is one of the single player accomplishments that all players aim for but especially quarterbacks. This means that there will be a lot of competition for the starting position for the team; this will give them the chance to get noticed and make statement on the football world. This will also be an important thing that the running game will need to make sure to keep in mind as well.

There is a lot in the way of running that the team will need to make sure that they have all in place when the season begins, there are several teams that as a result will need to make sure that they have all that is required in order to run the ball effectively down the field. looking at the camps that have been held, there looks like the teams running game is actually in position to hold a clinic on how to run the ball. This may be what leads the team to victory.

This will be a mixed bag season for the team, there will be players that will be looking to make an impact while there will be positions that will need a lot more work in the long run for the team, as a result of this there will need to be a team that is ready to accept the responsibility that is placed in front of them as a result. If this is in place, then the team will be ready to make a massive impact in the way of college football and as a result will be able to lead the team to the Promised Land in the near future.

Hurricane Sports

Previous Heisman winners in Vinny Testavarde & Gino Torretta. A team holding the record for most consecutive victories (58) at home. A team that also holds several record in regards to the NFL Draft. One is having a first round draft pick every year from 1995-2008. That's 14 straight years.

To buck that trend, Miami did have a coach(Coker) that was certainly a little more under the cover in comparison to most of the others. Since 2007, Larry Shannon has been given the opportunity to turn the program around. Several bowl game appearances in the school's history. They play every single year against two opponents(FSU & UF) that they don't like too well. Some really good players have been accepted into the Hurricane football program. A rumble on the field back in 2006 with FIU caused a lot of skepticism. This tangle lead to more than 10 players being expelled for a game. A QB from 1986 & one from 1992 taking home the Heisman Trophy. Two former coaches(Howard Schnellengberger & Larry Coker) have won the Paul "Bear" Bryant award given for top coach in college football.

A college baseball program considered to the amongst the best. You can't argue with that having made the equivalent(College World Series) of the MLB World Series for 23 of the past 27 years. Even though they've had 23 appearances winning only 4 titles seems low. Miami decided to move into a baseball conference back in 2004. The conference chosen was the ACC. They have now been a member for 6 years running now. Their 4 total national titles coming from 1982-2001.

A prestigious baseball program for going on 27 years now. Making 23 College World Series appearances in the past 27 years. Out of those 23 appearances winning a total of four national championships. They have been a member of the ACC for 6 years now after coming over from the ranks of the independents. Winning 2 nation titles in a four year time span. And, also winning two more championships in just a three year time frame.Having the same head coach (Jim Morris) since 1994. Only one other coach (Ron Fraser) has beat him for tenure by coaching for 29 years. They both still have something in common too.

There have also been quite a few former Miami baseball players in MLB. Some of the current MLB players are Ryan Braun & Pat Burrell. There's something you may not have known about the baseball program. The current baseball stadium is now named after current Yankee great Alex Rodriguez. This all due to a $3.9 million donation by him back in 2003. Not bad to see from one of the greatest baseball players in the game.

Dukies On The Court

Blue Devil Basketball Past

A top tier basketball program for many years. A team ranked as the fourth best all-time for wins. 4 national titles & 15 visits to the coveted NCAA Tournament. To show their basketball prowess, they have claimed 9 Player of the Year honors.

A school that is know for having their former players on NBA rosters. As a matter of fact, they lead all college basketball programs with current NBA players. A school that's had the same head coach for the past 30 seasons. A team that has won just under 20 regular season conference(ACC) championships. A school that has also claimed 18 post-season conference tournament titles.

They have won 19 regular season ACC championships. And, not to be outdone, 18 ACC tournament championships as well. Duke is ranked #2 all time for being ranked as the #1 team only trailing UCLA in that category.

They have also garnered a total of fifty-five All-Americans. To show their academic side, they have a total of fourteen Academic All-Americans. Under current coach Mike Krzyewski, Duke has made the NCAA Tournament 26 times. They have been to 19 Sweet Sixteens.

They have been chosen as the #1 seed in the tournament 11 times. 11 seasons of 30+ wins. Krzyewski has won an amazing 795 games with only 220 losses in these 30 years of being coach at Duke. They have won all four championships under his control & the most recent coming in 2010.

Previous Hoop Superstars

Duke has passed through some very talented basketball players. A total of 9 previous players that have received National Player of the Year honors. From a 1952 point guard to a 3-pt specialist in 2005. Dick Groat claimed the first Player of the Year award for Duke nearly 60 years ago. Eleven years later, Art Heyman claimed the honors.

It took nearly ¼ of a century before another player won the award. It was only a short time later before the next honor. Can you believe another 3 years & another Duke Player of the Year winner. The next one though had to wait 7 more years.

The two biggest names on this lists are probably Danny Ferry & Christian Laettner. Ferry played at Duke from 1985-1989. He won first team All-American in 1989 & second team All-American in 1988. Ferry has the single game scoring record at Duke with 58 points in a game. He ranks 5th all-time in points & also 5th in total rebounds.

Laettner has a special place in history. He knocked down a buzzer-beating jumper against the Kentucky Wildcats in the 1992 NCAA Tournament. Laettner is an NCAA tournament record holder in numerous categories. He has a total of 407 points. He has 142 FT's made. He has 167 FT's attempted. He has played in a total of 23 tournament games. He is also the all-time Duke leader in three-point percentage. He appeared in the Final Four during all of his seasons at Duke & was a starter in all four of those too.

Boston Red Sox Getting back again on Track

This has not been a season that the faithful of the Red Sox want to remember, there have been a ton of issues that have formed with the team in the past few seasons. This team is a far cry from the glory that they had no more than five years ago. Since the day that the curse was broken the team has seemed to be under a new curse. This new curse has made the team look less than stellar. The Faithful of the Red Sox are holding out hope that there is still time left to bring the team back from the edge and get them back on track.

The bullpen is one area that needs some serious work when it comes to the teams troubles. There are several things that will work in getting the team back on track. The biggest of these things is a pitcher that can get the game going and hand off to the closer to finish things out. There seems to be a lack of this momentum when you look at the bullpen. There is a severe lack of ambition that is in the pitching rotation. The talent that is there is beginning to wear thin.

The relief pitchers will be the one area that the team needs to look at when it comes to a successful game strategy that will lead them to win more games when they are on the mound. Thee closers are needed to back up the pitchers that are starting the game. Since they are not able to use the full strength of their bullpen, they will need to make sure that they do what they can in closing games out.

There has also been a severe lack of batting power when it comes to the batting order for the Sox. With the departure of Johnny Damon this left a large gap in the power of Boston's lineup. This hole has been something that has given the team a lot of trouble over the past several seasons. David Ortiz was supposed to be the one key that held the team together, this as a result was supposed to be the one area that the team had faith in knowing that the team was well on track to being a powerhouse in the baseball community.
There is still hope for the team to get their act together, and as a result get in position that they are able to head to the playoffs with a new sense of purpose. If the problems are not fixed soon, then the team will be looking at a very long season and will have to recoup in the offseason. This may be the best thing for the team to do; this will help to ensure that the team is looking better than ever in 2011. There is a small section of the Boston faithful that will be looking to see their team in post season play, these fans are dying hard and are not willing to give up on the dream.

Boise State Football

Rise To Success

Where's Boise State? What's a Bronco? Who's this football team? Well, we all know now. A team that has won 9 conference championships over the past 11 years. A team from the WAC(Western Athletic Conference). A team from a conference that hadn't exactly been a juggernaut in previous years.

During the past 11 seasons Boise State has a total record with 9 conference titles. Boise State currently plays in the Western Athletic Conference(WAC).This conference isn't exactly a powerhouse but Boise has made it more noticed in recent years. Boise moved over from the Big West Conference in 2002.

The football program has experienced 3 undefeated regular seasons out of the past 5 years. A lot of the critics say this is due to lack of competition. Boise also has a considerable home field advantage as well. They won 31 straight home games dating from 2001-2005. The home streak was ended by Boston College back on December 28, 2005.

Perfect Season #1

The 2006 season was one to remember not only for Bronco fans but football fans in general. An undefeated regular season & a trip to the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona. This was very unusual to have a non-BCS conference get accepted for a bid to a BCS game. They were ranked #8 nationally going into this game & also with a record unblemished. Finally, a team from a smaller conference had made a BCS bowl game.

What a game this was indeed. You have a powerhouse football team in Oklahoma & you have a smaller & less known school in Boise State. There was no way Boise could pull off the upset, right? Well, everybody was wrong. Boise State defeated the Oklahoma Sooners in overtime by a score of 43-42.

The final margin of victory was accomplished by going for a two-point conversion that gave them the victory. Boise State was the only D1-A college football team to finish the 2006 season undefeated. This was due to a loss by Ohio State against Florida. This 2006 campaign propelled the Boise program into the spotlight & history.

Another Unblemished Campaign

Boise State had another great season in 2009. There was no way they could have a better season than the one in 2006, right? Well, I think their record & outcome speaks for itself. The team finished with another perfect record with a 14-0 mark. The season was capped off with a victory against TCU in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl. This was only the 2nd time that a college football team had finished a season with a 14-0 record. There was no way this could happen to a school like Boise State!

Odd Looking Home Field

What does traditional mean in this case ? It means something that we're grown accustomed to over time. Well, in this case can you say "blue"? Boise State football plays home games on what's called a Field Turf. The odd thing is the turf is not the color we're used to watching games played on. All other college football games are played on a green colored surface. However, Boise chose to color their field blue back in 1986. It hasn't changed colors since. It may look weird to us but the fans of the Broncos have been doing this for nearly a quarter of a century. I wonder if they feel they're watching the "Smurfs"?

2010 the Conclude of 1 Era and the Starting of the Atlanta Braves New Era

It is a Miracle of sorts; the Atlanta Braves are on fire. This team is hot and is looking to make the most out of the opportunities that are placed in front of them. When the season ended last year, the Braves were on track to have a season in 2010 that was anything less than great. This was the overall feeling when Spring Training began earlier this year. Maybe it is the guardian angel that the team has, or maybe they want to send Bobby Cox into retirement the right way, no matter the reason the Braves are looking to make a serious impact in the second part of this season.

The pitching rotation that has been put into place is one of the reasons that the team is looking to make a serious run for the post season later on. There was not this much talent in the bullpen since the days that the trio ran the bullpen in the early nineties. It is a new era and there is a renewed sense of purpose for the Braves in the pitching department. Look at the number of strikeouts that the team has against other teams and it is quick to see that this is the reason for the success that the Braves has had in the first part of this season. This will be one of the keys to the success that the Braves have in the second part of this season.

Pitching is only one part of the equation that the team has had in the 2010 season. The power of the bats is the second part of the picture. The power that is brought to the plate has been better than it has in the past few years. The stats of the season are proof that the Braves are out hitting all the other teams that are in the National League. Few teams are able to compete with the power that the Braves bring to the plate when at bat. This will be another aspect that the Braves will need to continue improving on in the later part of 2010.

The Braves outfield has seen a lot of massive improvement in the form of adding players that are able to get the big plays that are needed to be made on the field. The Braves has one of the more solid outfields in all of baseball. This talented outfield has led the team to see an increase in the number of plays that resulted in double plays and stranding runners at base. This is a vital key to the success of the Braves.

If you were a fan of the braves, then this is the year to renew your membership in their fan club. If this is the first bit of contact that you have had with the team, then make sure that you invest some serious time into getting to know the team that has led the National League in a number of the categories. The Atlanta Braves are on track to giving Bobby Cox a wonderful retirement gift in the form of a World Series championship.

Small Problems lead to big Worries for the New York Yankees

One look at the current status of the New York Yankees, and it is apparent that something is wrong with the team and as a result there is a problem that needs to be addressed. This problem is in the form of their pitching rotation is at its breaking point and as a result is looking to experience a total meltdown.

This is due to the fact that the teams pitching rotation is showing signs of distress and as a result are beginning to slowly break down in their skills. There are few people that are able to see this, but a loyal fan can spot the problems.

There is the pitcher that they acquired that can pitch left or right handed, this will not be any help, as this is a rookie, and he is not ready to make that much of an impact on the team just yet. In later years, there may be a time when he can save the team, for the moment now, there is little that he can do.

While there is the talented player that was picked up that can pitch either hand, there is not enough experience that will give him enough confidence to handle the job himself. If they are able to get him a little more under the belt, then he could be the answer in the future.

There is the batting order that has been able to hold the whole thing together in order to keep the team from heading down the drain in regards to other teams outpitching them. Players like A-Rod and Jeter have been instrumental in making sure that the team is able to maintain their consistency when it comes to the batting order.

This is not an issue that cannot be fixed, there is still plenty of time in order to fix the issue and get the team back on the road to the World Series. This problem has also affected other areas beyond the bullpen; there are a lot of issues in the outfield that need to be addressed.

This is why the team needs to sit down and reevaluate the situation. They may be better off bringing up a few of the farm league players to take over for a few games and as a result allow them to rest their starters. Yes they will sacrifice a few games. This will be better to do now then wait and the problem gets a lot worse.

The batting order is the only area that has as of now not been affected by the depleted bullpen. There are some signs that this will be the only thing that may keep the Yankees on top during this crisis. If they are managed correctly, then they can get this problem fixed without too much trouble in the long run. This situation can easily be fixed if the fans and the team all have hope that the problem is corrected soon enough. Otherwise this may be a long second half to the season that they don't want to experience.

Michigan Wolverines a team looking to pounce

Michigan Wolverine

Sixty days and counting, this is the amount of time left before the wolverines of Michigan take to the field and prove that they are for real this season. While things have not went the best in the world for the team is seasons past, there is hope that a new signing class will be what the team needs in order to get the wheels back on track and get the team back to a point that they can contend for the BCS title. This will be a long struggle but one that will be worth it in the end. the team in the talks about a BCS bowl game. This will be an important consideration that will need to be addressed in the coming season.

There are plenty of fans that think that Rodriguez should have got the boot after they were embarrassed by a division II school. But instead he has been allowed to keep his position and lead the team to more and more losses that they could have avoided. The bright spot on the season is that there are a lot of new signees that have brought a new sense of purpose to the team; this will be the only good spot especially in the passing area. The signing of a decent quarterback was the beginning of getting the team up on their feet.

Nader Furrha is looked at as being the savior of the Wolverines passing game. While this could be a good assumption to make, there are a lot of fans that are placing too much faith in the team and in his abilities as a result. This will lead the passing game to need a little bit of work in the upcoming weeks. While he has a laser arm, there are several areas that will need sever work in the way of making sure that the team is able to get the most out of their passing game.

There is no doubt that the leading thing that will have the team on the road to a National title will be the ground game that has been on target in the workouts thus far. The Wolverines will be able to take confidence that there will be few areas of concern in the running game of Michigan. This is the biggest area of good news that the team can have. There will need to be a lot stronger running game in place to make up for the fact that the team is losing a strong passing game.

This can be a great year for the team to rebuild from all of the many disappointments that they have had in the past few seasons. This can be a golden year if Rich Rodriguez can get his act together and remember how to coach a football team. Otherwise I suggest that we take him and send him somewhere retched like the University of Memphis. This would be a fate that no coach wants to see happen to them. I promise you threaten to send him to Tiger High and he would run a flawless season for the rest of his life, just a thought.

San Diego Chargers Kicker Nate Kaeding

The San Diego Chargers have been at the top of their game over the course of the last four seasons, winning the NFL's AFC West crown in each campaign. This four-season romp through their division has marked the team's best string of success since the early days of the franchise in the first half of the 1960s. As fans of the team know, however, their appearances in the playoffs have been less than spectacular. Much of the blame for the team's inability to go deeper into the postseason and win that elusive first Super Bowl trophy has fallen squarely upon the shoulders of the Chargers' otherwise flawless kicker, Nate Kaeding.

Hawkeye greatness

Chosen by the Chargers fresh out of the draft in 2004, San Diego fans had high hopes for Kaeding. He was a part of the now famous Manning/Rivers deal that saw the Giants give San Diego Philip Rivers and several high picks in exchange for Manning. There were reasons enough to believe that Kaeding could fulfill his role as kicker: as the kicker for the Iowa Hawkeyes, he was called Mister Automatic since he rarely missed. From 40 or more yards, he was one of the best in all of college football, with career totals of twenty nine attempts and only five misses. His senior year saw him miss but one from that range. There was little reason to even suspect that his steady leg would do anything but garner the same results for his new team in the National Football League.

Regular season success

It's not like Kaeding has had a rough time with his regular season kicking game. He became the NFL's top kicker in the accuracy department as of the 2009 campaign, compiling a statistical success rate of nearly ninety percent since coming into the League. In that respect, he has had identical results to those he achieved as a college kicker in his Iowa career. As a Charger, he even had a season in which he made nearly every field goal he kicked - only three misses in his sixteen games. Fans forget all about that, though, since none of that gets to the heart of their concern: the man gives no indication that he can ever make the crucial kick when the season is on the line.

Missing the big ones

Take the fifty-plus yarder that he missed during the 2006 playoff game with the Patriots. At the time, it would have led to a tie and overtime. Or take the 2007 playoff misfires in games against the Titans and Colts. Either miss, had the game been closer, might have resulted in an early postseason exit (forget the fact that the Patriots eventually ousted them from Super Bowl contention anyway). And then there's the biggest heartache of all: last season's three misses during a playoff game with the Jets. They were the only three kicks he attempted in the game, and had he made any of them, the game might have ended very differently.

As it stands, the team's supporters think of Kaeding as someone who chokes in big situations. Though his fans in Iowa City would vehemently disagree, there is little doubt that he will continue to wear that mantle until he demonstrates with his leg exactly why Iowa fans called him Mister Automatic in the first place.
